This group embodies the ideals and aspirations of this premier Maritime Institution of the Philippines. They are selected young men who have been trained by their predecessors in the art of synchronized motion, snappy rifle executions and an awe-inspiring and coordinated movements. These young men consistently rendered outstanding performances making their heads and shoulders rise from groups of their own class.
Class of 1996 The numbers 9and 6, stand for the class of 1996. Day after day and night after night, struggles continue for the Class of 1996 as they experience constant changes from their fourth class year, training at sea, and up to the present. This batch is proud to say that they are the last living relics of the Regimental System. If we trace the avenue of remembrance, we can only see the shadows of their memories, for these are things that must be kept secret within the four corners of the Academy. Time shall come, they will emerge as survivors and triumphant victors in this peculiar episode of life...because deep within their hearts and minds, they possess HONOR, PRIDE and DISCIPLINE.
HELLO The letter H-E-L-L-O. Our simple way of welcoming our guests for whom this special day has been set. We hope that this day will be the start of a long and lasting friendhsip among us. Distinguished individuals who played an important role in our period of sacrifices and challenges, we respect and salute you with pride!
The Letters PMMA... From an innocent boy to a man of valor and honor. From an ordinary student to a PMMA midshipman with a very promising future; something to be proud about. It's an uncommon transformation of a human being because very few institutions could effect such transformation. We are very proud that PMMA stands among these institutions. With these bold letters P-M-M-A, we would like to show our most profound gratitude to our alma mater. HEART As the famous group the Lettermen said "Love is a many splendored thing." Though we live in a regimental kind of syem, it is not true that our heart is made of stone. We are also human beings with five senses working effectively...able to see, feel, hear and love. These gentlemen in the formation were mostly single and negotiable but at the time this homepage is being done, a lot of them are now taken by the lucky woman who won their last love.
THE PROPELLER The PMMA offers a Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, proudly the first and only institution in the land to offer this course. The propeller represents the engineering course of PMMA where the finest Marine Engineers come from. On board a ship, they are responsible for the ship's power and auxillary systems. Without the technical prowess of the Marine Engineers, the ship is nothing but a powerless floating mass of metal.
ANCHOR A very familiar symbol, the anchor. It is a general symbol in the Maritime Industry. But what is more in this heavy piece of metal? This keep the vessel secure to the ground regardless of the state of wind or current thus symbolizes firmness in direction or in decision-making. The quality trait the Academy instills in the mind of every midshipmen. The anchor is also the adopted symbol of the Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation which is offered in the Academy. Under this course, the midshipmen are trained to be efficient , effective & world class Marine Officers.
THE THREE CIRCLES These symbolize the three rules of success..Obey, Obey and Obey. The midshipmen are trained in the fine art of obedience. These rules are implemented to maintain the Academy's prestige with highest distinction as well as to preserve the code of conduct based on the principles of RIGHTEOUSNESS(kawastuan), HUMILITY(kababaang-loob) & COURAGE(kagitingan)
"X" FOR DON'TS This symbolizes that a midshipman does not lie, cheat or steal. Those three don'ts are the main essence of the PMMA Honor System whereby every midshipman is disciplined and indoctrinated to distinguish himself from other cadets or students outside PMMA. By this concept, a PMMA'er is molded to be an officer and gentleman.
INVERTED "V" The inverted "V" of the spearhead symbolizes the PMMA society's renewed vigor and enthusiam toward the fulfillment of its objectives and achieving its goal. Look at it upside down and it turns into "V" which stands for victory. This letter signifies the triumphs we had as we pursue our objectives and yet the quest for better never stops. The PMMA aims for greater heights and works hard to reach them.
FLOWER Symbol of beautry, challenges and simplicity...the Flower. Every midshipmen emerged from different places of the Archipelago. Recruited to be a simple, yet competitive member of the Corps of Midshipmen of the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy and have been combined for unified task and mission to continually improve the Maritime Profession. This also symbolizes the colorful and challenging field, filled with laughter and hardships to test our unity and camaraderie.
GLARING SUN The source of ligth, of strength and hope...the glaring Sun. The Academy has been founded on the ideals of professionalism through meeting the educational needs of the midshipmen and also the integration of hope in its goal. The hope of giving the graduates a bright future through job opportunities established during the midshipman's shipboard training period. Most of the gradutes land in a job with the best conditions and well compensated positions as Merchant Marine Officers. CLOCK "Time is gold" as the old saying goes. Every midshipmen are trained to keep time to maximize its value.
THE LETTERS A-D-I-O-S We all know that everything must come to an end. With a kiss we say "so long" but not good bye because we have just begun. We hope that with this performance we were able to convey our own sentiments or gratitudes for sahring with us this moment. Hope that our paths will meet again in the near future. (at present, most of those who's paths have crossed again are living happily ever after!!!)
Every performance is ended by a Pass-In Review With pride we present the Academy's best, The Philippine Merchant Marine Academy Sllent Drill Company.
Turn-Over Ceremony Now and then, the Silent Drill Company shall continue to uphold their missions, ideals and aspirations of the Alma Mater, The Philippine Merchant Marine Academy...This Turn -Over of Command from generation to generation shall be a living legacy...
